Daily Devotion - Jan 28, 2026 (English)- Choose Wisely
We will die one day, and we do not even know when that day will come. There is no limit to age, no distinction between young and old. That is in God's secret diary. When the time comes, everyone has to go.
We have come here to keep our mind absorbed in God while utilizing the world to sustain the body. This is why God manifested this world. But we have forgotten this fact. The world has especially contributed to our forgetfulness.
Our worldly relations have made us even more foolish, and we have begun to believe that there is joy in accumulating wealth. We keep running, thinking the one ahead of us must have found that happiness. Even Indra, the king of heaven, is unhappy and desires Brahma's position.
This understanding will not become firm until we accept that -
God created this world for the body, not for the soul. The soul is divine and belongs to the Supreme God. It is God's power, His part, His servant, and it is so subtle that no one can get hold of it. When the time comes, it will have to depart.
Remain alert at all times because in whomever your mind is at the final moment, you will attain them after death. Remember this statement. If your mind is attached to your mother, who becomes a dog in her next life due to sins, you will have to go there, too. You will have to become a dog. Even a great paramahamsa like Jada Bharata had to become a deer in his next life due to his attachment to a fawn.
Therefore, if you keep your mind attached to God 'always,' you will go to God's abode, Golok. The scriptures and the Vedas say that the two personalities are pure. If the mind remains in either of these two, you will go to Golok. If your mind is anywhere else in the world, you'll have to wander in the world of maya.
Except for God and His associates, everyone is bound by maya. If you are attached to them, you will remember them at your final moment and attain them after death. So, keep your mind attached to God and Guru 'at all times', so that you remember Them at the time of death and attain God's abode. Otherwise, you will be wandering in this world for eternity, and that will continue. Even the celestial Gods desire this human body, which is obtained only rarely, once in millions of kalpas. This is no joke. Do not think, "I will easily attain a human body again. So I can do devotion then."
It is the continual procrastination that has led to the current miserable state. You have seen God and met saints countless times, but kept postponing. You do not think about yourself even after seeing others die - this is the greatest wonder. Even at 50, 60, 70, 80 years of age, people do not think that they, too, can die. They think, "I am not going to die anytime soon." One will die sometime or another! Do not procrastinate on worldly matters. You do bad deeds immediately. If you wish to insult someone or become angry, you do it immediately.
After the incident of Yudhishthir postponing giving gold to a Brahmin in charity, he made a law in his kingdom - Perform good deeds immediately and postpone sinful deeds, saying, "I will do it tomorrow." Why? Because if you feel like doing a bad deed today and postpone it to tomorrow, by tomorrow, your mind might change, and you will avoid doing it. On the other hand, if you postpone a good deed - today, you have a desire to do it, but tomorrow your desire might change. For example, say you wish to donate some money to a noble cause today, but you postpone it. Then tomorrow, you might decide to buy a toy for your child with that money, thinking, "What's this God-business, anyway?"
The mind is an enemy. It has ruined your countless lives. You think you understand everything. You would have achieved your goal if you had understood even a little. It is your pride that is killing you. You think that whatever you understand is right. You pick and choose from what the Guru says, thinking this is right and that is not, because it does not suit you. Guru Ji tells you to donate wealth - dānamekaṃ kalau yuge -
The scriptures and Vedas say charity alone helps one in Kaliyug. However, you dismiss this by saying that Guru Ji only talks about money. You would not have donated even a single rupee if you did not associate with Shri Maharaj Ji. He has worked so hard for our welfare so that we accumulate some spiritual merit and attain a human body again, at the very least.
Therefore, always consider the mind as an enemy. Lord Kapil said, na kuryāt karhicit sakhyaṃ manasi hyanavasthite -
O humans! Do not befriend the mind.
The mind sometimes tells you to sleep and sometimes to eat some delicacy. You feel you will find happiness in this, but this is not happiness; it is a big deception. Countless lives have been wasted in this deception. So, stay alert and keep your mind engaged in God and Guru at all times, just as you move carefully through traffic, because even a slight carelessness there can lead to an accident.
