Daily Devotion - Jan 12, 2026 (English)- One Melting Point
Doha Explanation - Hari hita drave mana Govinda Radhe. Pai jaga hita mana kaṭhina banā de.
These are two contradictory instructions -
Kāṭhinyaṁ viṣaye kuryād dravatāṁ bhagavatpade. (Veda)
You must make your mind extremely hard toward the world. Even if someone dies, even if something in the world is destroyed, your mind should not melt - you should remain inwardly steady and composed. This is because God Himself has said: -
Taṁ bhraṁśayāmi sampadbhyo yasya cecchāmyanuggraham.
"I remove the worldly possessions of the one upon whom I wish to bestow My grace."
This means that the loss of worldly things is, in fact, God's grace. Conversely, the acquisition of worldly things indicates the opposite. This is because whenever someone receives anything in abundance, pride inevitably arises. No one in this world is immune to this tendency.
If nothing else, the stage of youth comes to everyone at some point. At that time, a person walks with arrogance, flexing his muscles and declaring, "It's iron!"
Prāpte tu ṣoḍaśe varṣe gardabhī cāpsarāyate -
At the age of sixteen, even a she-donkey considers herself an apsara. This intoxication of youth affects everyone without exception.
Yauvanaṁ dhanasampattiḥ prabhutvamavivakatitā. Ekaikamapyanarthāya kimu yatra catuṣṭayam.
Four factors cause great harm -
- Youth
- Wealth and riches - the ego of money, whether it is one crore or one billion
- Prabhutva - positions of authority such as Inspector, Collector, and so on.
- Avivekatā - the lack of discrimination, accompanied by ignorance of the scriptures and the Vedas.
These four things are so dangerous that they can be compared as follows:
i) A monkey is already restless by nature.
ii) If you then make it drink alcohol, it becomes further agitated.
iii) If a scorpion then stings it, its condition worsens even more.
iv) And if it then becomes possessed by a ghost, its state becomes utterly uncontrollable.
Now consider the condition of such a monkey. That is exactly the condition of a person in whom all four of these factors come together.
Ekaikamapyanarthāya kimu yatra catuṣṭayam -
Even the presence of just one of these is sufficient to cause complete destruction. What, then, can be said when all four are present together?
In reality, God neither snatches anything from anyone nor gives anything to anyone. Everything unfolds according to one's destiny. However, if something is taken away according to your destiny, you should regard it as divine grace and not view it negatively. One who constantly keeps philosophical knowledge in mind understands that worldly possessions are actually enemies and therefore remains cautious of them.
Therefore, remain hard toward the world, and do not allow your heart to melt for it.
When the heart melts, the one for whom it melts enters the heart - this is an undeniable principle. If your heart melts for God or Guru, They enter the heart and purify it. If it melts for worldly people or objects, the heart becomes even more impure. Always retain this knowledge.
While eating, if a small stone appears in your food, you remove it and throw it away. In the same way, the world is an enemy. Since eternity, it has been repeatedly destroying the soul by pulling it towards itself. In every birth, your parents and all worldly relations keep changing.
Therefore, always keep this philosophical understanding firmly in your mind:
Let the heart melt only for God, and let it remain completely unmoved by the world. When this happens, the path to attaining God becomes clear.
