In our previous article, we explored the concept of the three eternal entities in the cosmos: Jiva (individual souls), Brahm (God), and maya (illusion), emphasizing the two available paths for the souls - spiritual and material. Now, let's delve deeper into the nature of maya, why the soul is ensnared by it, and how liberation from maya can be achieved for inner peace and fulfilment.
According to Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj's teachings on Vedic philosophy, God is the omnipresent and blissful Supreme entity who has manifested this entire creation through the power of maya. Despite pervading and embodying this creation, God remains imperceptible and unseen. maya, on the other hand, is the insentient but immensely powerful force directly driven by Almighty God's energy. The fundamental elements of earth, water, fire, air, and space are various manifestations of maya's lifeless material nature.
The individual soul, is a fragment of God's sentient power but holds a marginal position within this cosmic arrangement. Although soul is an infinitesimal part of God, its true nature is divine, and therefore, it naturally craves divine virtues such as love, happiness, peace, and kindness. The soul exists in various living forms such as trees, animals, and humans. However, perpetually turned away from God, the soul succumbs to the overwhelming influence of maya, forgetting its true divine essence. This forgetfulness leads the soul to identify solely with the material body, attaching itself to transient material pursuits and objects, resulting in a cycle of unfulfillment and misery.
Liberation from the invincible grasp of maya may seem like an insurmountable task, considering maya's indomitable connection to Almighty God. It appears that maya is our greatest adversary, hindering our access to God. Why would God create an entity that withholds us from reaching Him? In reality, God eagerly awaits His children to return to Him. Throughout history, many individual souls have transcended maya's control to attain Him.
