Daily Devotion -Mar 30, 2026 (English)- Name Is Enough

Vedavyas has said:
go koṭi dānaṃ grahaṇeṣu kāśī, prayāga gaṃgā yuta kalpa vāsaḥ।
yajñāgataṃ meru suvarṇa dānaṃ, goviṃda nāmnāna kadāpi tulyam॥
In other words, take a balance, and in one pan, place the following:

  1. Spiritual merit earned by donating one crore cows at the time of the total solar eclipse in Kashi,
  2. Spiritual merit earned by residing in Prayag as an ascetic for 10,000 years (meaning residing on the banks of the Ganga), and
  3. Spiritual merit earned by performing a great yagya and donating a mountain of gold.

On the other side, just put the divine name of Govind. The side of the balance with the name "Govind" will tilt down and touch the ground. In other words, the name Govind will outweigh the pan, full of immense merits. This means neither gyān, yoga, sacrificial rites, fasting, nor any other spiritual practice can equal devotion. Without devotion, all other practices are fruitless - they cannot lead to liberation from Maya, nor can they lead to God-realization. In fact, without the grace of devotion, even the fruits of those practices cannot be attained.

Such is the invaluable glory of God's divine name. God's name does not merely refer to saying the letters, but rather chanting the name in which you have imbued the sentiments of love for God.
