Daily Devotion -Mar 11, 2026 (English)- Sorrow’s Cure
Dwelling on sorrow is dangerous. There are two remedies for this:
i) Do the opposite. That is, divert the mind and contemplate God instead. If you listen to the glories of God and reflect upon them, sorrow comes to an end. One who does not do this will keep dwelling on sorrow and remain miserable. The soul has been turned away from God since eternity, and the cure for this is to turn toward God. Sitting idle leads to thinking about sorrow. That is why even modern psychologists say: stay engaged in work and keep the mind occupied. Therefore, keep the mind directed to the opposite side, that is, toward God. This is the primary cure.
ii) Sorrow also decreases when you look at those who are worse off than yourself. For example, if your foot hurts for a little while and you notice someone who has no feet at all and is dragging himself along the ground, you realize: at least you are better off. At least you can walk, even if slowly.
