Question - Some people are immediately filled with devotional sentiments and surrender to God. The symptoms of divine love manifest within them - tears flow, their hearts melt. On the other hand, some remain stone-hearted even after attending satsang for a long time. They are unable to develop divine sentiments, experience physical reactions like goosebumps, or shed tears. They struggle to surrender to God. Why does this happen?
Shri Maharaj Ji's Answer -
The reason for this difference is that the mind is impure and full of sins - pāpavaṃta kara sahaja subhāū, yāvat pāpaistu malinaṃ hṛdayaṃ tāvadeva hi।
The more sinful a person's mind is, the longer it will take for them to surrender and develop divine sentiments for God and the Guru. Until then, they engage in arguments, counter-arguments, fallacies, and doubts, thereby committing further offenses. These offenses further pollute their already sinful intellect. Consequently, they can never attain their goal, because sins harden the heart, and they cannot stop using their material intellect. As a result, they continue to commit nāmaparādh and can never truly surrender. Years pass by attending satsang, yet devotional sentiments do not arise. This limited material intellect ultimately ruins them.
Therefore, if someone quickly develops divine sentiments for God, it indicates the purity of their heart. God and Guru are like magnets. However, the condition is that the "iron" - the mind of the aspiring devotee - must be 100% pure. Only then will it be immediately attracted. Those with impurities - meaning sins - will take proportionately longer to be attracted. Those with excessive impurities won't even budge from their place. One whose mind is excessively sinful remains attached to the world, with no concern for what lies beyond death.
